Water supplies restored to all 23,000 homes following mains burst in Bearsden

Water supplies have been restored to all 23 ,000 homes in Bearsden and Maryhill which were affected by a burst main.

Scottish Water engineers Top of Formhave been on site since the burst occurred shortly after 5am on Maryhill Road near its junction with Coronation Way, just south of Canniesburn Toll.

The burst affected the normal water supplies to up to 23,000 properties in the Bearsden and Maryhill areas. It also caused flooding to some properties and traffic disruption.

A spokesperson for Scottish Water said:  "Scottish Water has restored normal water supplies to all 23,000 properties in parts of Bearsden and Maryhill in Glasgow which were affected by a burst water main.

Engineers have been on site since the burst on a 36 inch trunk main occurred early this morning on Maryhill Road near its junction with Coronation Way, just south of Canniesburn Toll.

"The burst affected the normal water supplies to up to 23,000 properties in the Bearsden and Maryhill areas. It also caused flooding to some properties and traffic disruption near the burst.

"Our engineers re-zoned the network and brought in water supplies from other areas and by early afternoon had restored normal supplies to 18,000 properties and to the remaining 5000 properties early this evening.

“The affected part of Maryhill Road has been closed following the burst. It is anticipated that the repair to the water main and the reinstatement of the road might take some time to complete.
“This is likely to mean there will be implications for road traffic in the area near the burst over the coming days.

“We are liaising with other relevant agencies and we are grateful for their assistance.”

Scottish Water said those affected might experience some discolouration in their water and should run the cold tap in their kitchen until their water runs clear.

Mr John Rae, Scottish Water’s General Manager for Water Operations, said: “Scottish Water apologises for the inconvenience to customers, particularly those who have been affected by flooding, and road-users.

“We’ve worked hard to restore normal supplies as quickly as possible and have made progress in many parts of the affected areas. We will do everything possible to restore supplies to those still affected as soon as we can.

“We thank all customers for their patience and understanding.”
