£270m: The amount Scotland’s councils will have to slash next year

Scotland is facing the toughest financial cuts since devolution, as councils slash millions of pounds from their budgets, axe thousands of jobs, and raise charges for ­services.

A Sunday Herald investigation has found that Scotland’s 32 local authorities face having to save £270 million in the next financial year -- and are planning to cut around 3,000 posts from their 275,000-strong workforce.
