30-year term for 'Saw' killer

A killer who copied a scene from a horror film by chopping through the spine of a Scots former soldier has been jailed for at least 30 years.

Richard Hamilton, 17, originally from Glasgow, was knifed by Matthew Tinling, 25, at a hostel in London, in what was described by a judge as a savage and prolonged murder.

Tinling copied a scene from the film, Saw, by attempting to cut Mr Hamilton's spinal cord and torturing him for the PIN number for his bank account, which he used to get £240 to spend on crack cocaine. A copy of Saw 6 was found in his room.
