£5.2bn Scots warship contract faces the axe

Thousands of Scottish shipbuilding jobs are under threat after the boss of BAE Systems yesterday admitted the Government was considering cancelling a £5.2 billion defence contract.

Chief executive Ian King said the Ministry of Defence had asked him to look at different options over the building of two super- carrier warships at Govan and Scotstoun, on the Clyde, and Rosyth, on the Forth.
