A colourful life

Alice Strang, curator of a major new exhibition of works by Samuel Peploe, admires his Girl Red Bandeau which has gone on display at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art.

The painting, which dates back to about 1912, is one of around 100 exhibits from the hand of the oldest and most successful of the four Scottish Colourists. The event is taking place in Edinburgh, where Peploe spent all his life apart from two years. It runs from tomorrow until June 23 next year. Picture: Steve Cox
