Passengers using the 11 airports operated by the publicly owned Highlands and Islands Airports Ltd (HIAL) may soon be made more aware of the Gaelic language.

HIAL has prepared a Gaelic Plan that will now go out to public consultation. Its proposals include the creation of a bilingual HIAL logo, increased use of Gaelic in airport signs, terminal information screens and online. It also plans Gaelic awareness training for frontline staff, and the appointment of Gaelic language ambassadors.

Inglis Lyon, HIAL managing director, said: "HIAL is determined to play its part in supporting the development of Gaelic and in raising its profile across Scotland."
