The US TV series Outlander will be appearing in the UK on Amazon.

The series, shot in Scotland and based in studios in Cumbernauld, will be available through the Amazon Prime Instant Video service.

Fans of the series, and the best selling books by Diana Gabaldon, have long sought information on when the series would be available in the UK.

Broadcast magazine, a key screen industry publication, say Sony Pictures have done a deal with Amazon for UK broadcast rights.

The series will shoot a second season in Scotland this year.

It stars Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe in its lead roles.

It was developed for television by Ronald D Moore and also stars Tobias Menzes, Gary Lewis and Graham McTavish, among others.

Sony declined to comment on the reports last night.

It is understood by The Herald that the series will appear on the Amazon service in the spring.
