According to new figures, Scotland had around 19,300 liquor licences in circulation in December 2007 but this had dropped to 16,500 by May of this year.
Over the past two-and-a-half years an estimated 2800 licensed premises in Scotland have either shut or stopped selling alcohol – with the economic crisis, smoking ban and new liquor laws largely blamed for the decline.
