The Scottish Gamekeepers' Association (SGA) yesterday welcomed Government statistics which showed salmon anglers in Scotland release almost three-quarters of all fish caught back into rivers.
The figures come after the Scottish Goverment introduced a voluntary catch and release policy in order to protect vulnerable spring stock of salmon and wild trout.
In 2011, 91% of all rod caught spring salmon were returned, while 73% of the total rod catch were released.
