An animal charity is trying to track down the owner of stray guineafowl which was found in Wishaw on Thursday.

The Scottish SPCA was called to help the bird when it was spotted 30 foot up a tree on Old Manse Road.

When animal rescue officer Gavin Law arrived the bird had come down to ground level and he was able to rescue her using a net.

The guineafowl is now in the care of the Scottish SPCA's animal rescue and rehoming centre in Hamilton and has been nicknamed Bumble.

Gavin said: "I'd like to thank the two women who spotted her and stayed until she had been caught.

"It's likely Bumble was kept as a pet and we hope someone will come forward.

"We'd ask anyone who recognises her to get in touch. If no-one comes forward we'll find her a suitable new home."

Anyone who recognises Bumble should contact the Scottish SPCA's Hamilton centre on 03000 999 999.
