POLICE are appealing for information after a man was left seriously injured in a hit-and-run accident.

The 21-year-old was on his own when he crossed Kirk Brae in the Liberton area of Edinburgh at around 2am yesterday after being dropped off by a taxi and was struck by another vehicle, which did not stop.

Another taxi driver found him lying on the road a short time later and the man was taken to hospital with what police describe as potentially life-changing injuries.

The injured man was initially taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary before being transferred to the Western General Hospital, where he is still receiving treatment.

Officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information about the incident to get in touch.

Inspector Keith Denholm of Lothian and Borders Police said: "This pedestrian is suffering from possibly life-changing injuries. He was crossing Kirk Brae from west to east when he was hit by a vehicle between 1.50am and 2am.

"Anyone who was in the area or who knows someone who was driving on Kirk Brae at that time is asked to get in touch."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
