ARCHBISHOP of Glasgow Philip Tartaglia has returned home after suffering a heart attack while attending a Bishops' meeting in Spain.
Scotland's most senior cleric arrived home as scheduled on Monday evening and aides say he will now take some time out to fully recover.
A spokesman said: "The Archbishop was able to travel with the other Scottish Bishops as had been scheduled. It is expected that he will now undertake a period of convalescence.
"The Archbishop wishes to thank the medical team of the University Hospital Salamanca for their care. He also expresses his thanks to the Rector and staff of the Royal Scots College, to his fellow Bishops, the Catholic community in Scotland, and all who have prayed for him and expressed their good wishes.
"He is grateful to the First Minister for her good wishes and to Rt.Rev.John Chalmers, Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, for the prayerful good wishes of the Church of Scotland.
"He also extends his thanks to everyone who offered prayers and good wishes by text, email or twitter. The Archbishop is humbled and deeply grateful."
