Armed raiders threatened staff and demanded cash at a Royal Bank of Scotland branch at lunchtime.

Police Scotland said the gang launched the raid on the RBS branch in Tollcross in Edinburgh around mid-day and although staff were unhurt they were left shocked.

It is unclear at this stage whether the raiders managed to escape with cash.

Detective inspector Stuart Harkness said: "Police were called to a report of a robbery at RBS in Tollcross, Edinburg, at 12pm today.

"A number of armed men entered the building and demanded cash.

"No one was injured during this incident, however this was a frightening and intimidating experience for the staff and members of public at the branch.

"Enquiries are continuing and anyone with information, or who witnessed this robbery, should contact."

A cordon was placed at Home Street and Lochrin Terrace while the investigation was carried out.
