Arrests at rival protests in Manchester

A total of 30 people were arrested after thousands of demonstrators took to the streets in rival race protests.

Trouble flared as the English Defence League (EDL) faced off against Unite Against Fascism (UAF) in Manchester city centre.

The two factions stood on opposite sides of Piccadilly Gardens, separated by a heavy police line, with officers dressed in riot gear and on horseback.
