THE widow of one of Scotland's best-known businessmen and philanthropists has launched a new art exhibition in his memory.

Donald Storrie, who sold his estate agency for £15m, died at the Marie Curie Hospice two years ago.

Now May Storrie has launched the event, which she hopes will become an annual fundraiser, at The Lighthouse centre for design and architecture in Glasgow.

One of the main exhibits is an 18-carat daffodil in the shape of the charity's emblem, which is to be sold.

Around 200 works of art from more than 80 leading Scots artists will also be on show at the exhibition and art sale, called Art for Care.

Mr Storrie was a patron of Marie Curie and helped raise £16m for the charity to build its new hospice in Glasgow.

The 69-year-old, who sold his estate agency in 1987 and later became known for his charitable work, had been suffering from pulmonary fibrosis for five years when he died in 2012.

He was a freeman of Glasgow and London.
