Asylum staff deal ends strike threat

THE deal to transfer the care of hundreds of asylum seekers in Glasgow has been rescued from the brink of collapse after an agreement was reached on the staff facing redundancy as a result of the transfer.

Dozens of asylum support staff at Glasgow City Council had voted for strikes over the plans after it emerged the charity they were to be transferred to, Ypeople, had not met legal and financial obligations and jobs were only guaranteed for a year.
