Six Scottish bands have received funding to perform at at one of the world's leading music festivals, South by South West (SXSW), in Austin, Texas.

Young Fathers, Prides, Withered Hand, Honeyblood, Casual Sex and Holy Esque will play at the festival in March after being backed by Creative Scotland.

The SXSW Festival is one of the world's leading showcases for contemporary music.

The six bands supported by Creative Scotland will perform at the 2014 Scottish Music Showcase, which is supported by Creative Scotland in association with the Scottish Music Industry Association.

Caroline Parkinson, director of Creative Development at Creative Scotland, said: "These six acts represent some of the hottest prospects to be emerging on the international scene.

"SXSW is an important platform to showcase Scotland's vibrant contemporary music scene to international audiences.

"Through making connections and performing to industry representatives all six acts will use SXSW as a platform to take their music into international markets."

Other Scottish acts announced in the festival line up include Cairn String Quartet, Rustie, Saor Patrol, We Were Promised Jetpacks, The Xcerts, PAWS and Twin Atlantic.
