UP to two million people were unable to access their bank accounts while on the move following the third major technical hitch to hit RBS Group in just nine months.

Those who bank with RBS, NatWest and Ulster Bank were frozen out of their mobile phone banking app from 6.30am yesterday.

It was the latest technical problem to beset the group, which suffered a huge IT meltdown last summer that left account holders unable to access wages and pay bills.

A spokeswoman for RBS could not say how many customers had been affected, but the service is widely used, with 13 million log-ins taking place every week.
