POLICE are hunting fraudsters who used a skimming device to steal £3000 from a customer's bank account through an ATM machine.

Residents and visitors are being told to be on their guard after the sophisticated equipment was discovered in a cash machine in Fen-wick Road, Giffnock, East Renfrewshire on Saturday.

The device retained the customer's card allowing the scammers to take £3000.

The scam involves putting a loop of plastic into the card slot, which then traps any card a customer puts into the machine.

Police said the stolen bank card was then used in shops around Glasgow.

It is the second time in two months that residents in Giffnock have been targeted.
