Banksy-type barns are all the rustic rage

Dumfries and Galloway has put one over on Banksy.

Artists are converging on the region to paint murals on anything from old barns to cottages and gable ends as part of a major visual arts festival.

Preparations are well under way for Spring Fling, which runs from May 24 until May 26.

Among those taking part is London-based artist, illustrator and animation director Will Barras.

He has produced what he says is a 'mural mural' on an old barn at East Knockbrex Farm, near Newton Stewart, Wigtownshire, with the permission of owner Iain Service.

The barn is to be knocked down later in the year but the mural will remain in place for people to view until then.

Elsewhere Denise Zagadlo and Fraser Gray have created a 'bonfire' mural at the gable end of a cottage in Keir Mill, near Thornhill.

Mr Barras and Amy Winstanley have also been busy brightening up the side of a corrugated iron building in Stranraer Harbour.

Organisers are promising that this year's Spring Fling will be the most ambitious event. The annual event attracts 10,000 visitors from across the world to artists' studios in the area. The work of 95 professional visual artists, designers and makers, each selected for the high quality of their work, will be on show.
