THE manager of a pub which claims to be the oldest in Glasgow has been ordered to pay £10,000 after illegally screening sports matches on satellite TV.

Mark Daly had been showing Sky Sports in The Old College Bar, in High Street, without the correct commercial viewing licence.

Sky TV bosses were awarded a court order at the Court of Session in Edinburgh to stop the pub manager's illegal screenings.

He will have to pay £10,000 in damages and Sky's legal costs and will also have to fund public notices advertising the ruling.

Alison Dolan, deputy managing director at Sky Business, said the ruling to pay for advertising was the first order of its kind and demonstrated the gravity of the issue.

No-one from the College Bar, which has been serving drink since 1812, was available for comment.
