AROUND 40 firefighters battled last night to bring a large-scale fire at a bedding store under control.

Fire crews were called to the Dreams store in Straiton Retail Park, Loanhead, Midlothian, at 6.12pm as flames engulfed the building, which had closed for the night.

A total of 13 appliances with four senior officers attended the scene.

A spokesman for Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue service said the blaze had been brought under control using two high-pressure hoses and a covering jet. Crews also used specialist thermal imaging cameras.

A fire investigation unit remained at the scene late last night trying to uncover the cause of the fire.
