Bella Caledonia cheers charities

THE artwork from one of First Minister Alex Salmond's official Christmas cards has been sold at auction for £4800.

Bella Caledonia by Alasdair Gray is an image taken from the ceiling mural in Glasgow's Oran Mor bar and restaurant and was used for the First Minister's official card in 2011.

The proceeds will go to four charities: the Children's Hospice Association Scotland, the Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund, the Glenachulish Preservation Trust (which raises money to restore and preserve the last working turntable ferry of its kind, on Skye) and the Save Small Tribes Trust, which works with indigenous peoples in South America.
