Benedetti plea for musical support

CLASSICAL violinist Nicola Benedetti has spoken with the First Minister as she fights for greater support for music education across the UK.

The 25-year-old from Ayrshire, who recently won best female artist at the Classic Brit Awards, said that multimillion-pound cuts to funding for arts bodies are depriving youngsters the chance of learning a musical instrument.

She said: "I appreciate cuts have to be made, but without creativity and substantive teaching of the arts, children may be less creative, less confident, less communicative, productive, able and generous."
