Child benefit is paid out to the families of more than 40,000 youngsters living overseas, Government figures show.
According to the latest data, handouts were made to 23,855 families across Europe – with the payouts affecting 40,251 children.
The data was revealed following a written parliamentary question from the Tory MP for Witham in Essex, Priti Patel.
