PROTESTERS have staged a demonstration outside a Delhi police station to demand better policing after a 14-year-old girl complained she had been raped.

At least 100 people gathered outside the south Delhi police station where the case, involving a girl from the north-eastern state of Manipur, was filed on Saturday.

The demonstrators also claim racist treatment of people from the north-east at the hands of officers.

The poor state of safety for women in India has been in the spotlight since a student was gang-raped on a bus in Delhi in 2012. She later died.
