THEY are used to seeing their names in lights and now they will have to get used to seeing their faces on the mail.

Ronnie Corbett and Billy Connolly are among 10 comedy acts to be featured on a new set of stamps to mark the contribution to the world of entertainment and comedy by some of the nation's most cherished performers across the decades.

Edinburgh-born Corbett, who now lives in East Lothian, features on a stamp alongside his late partner-in-crime, Ronnie Barker.

The Two Ronnies' stamp immortalises their renowned 'four candles' sketch, and celebrates one of Britain's best-loved comedy double acts.

Andrew Hammond, Head of Stamps and Collectibles at Royal Mail, said: "For decades, the UK has long boasted some of the most influential and significant comedy talent in the world. This set of stamps rightly pays tribute to the comedians who have made the nation laugh out loud at their ground-breaking comedy genius."

Glasgow's Lord Provost Sadie Docherty said: "Billy Connolly is a comedy legend and is loved across the globe for the laughter he creates. He is a deserving freeman of this city. His inclusion in this set of Comedy Great stamps confirms his genius and appeal. I'm sure it will bring a proud smile to all Glaswegians."

The stamps focus on performers from the tradition of stand-up and sketch shows, dating back from the 1940s. Victoria Wood and Spike Milligan are among those on the 10 first class stamps, along with Morecambe and Wise, Lenny Henry, Peter Cook and Dudley Moore, French and Saunders and Monty Python.
