Bird death reward

A £1000 reward has been offered to find those responsible for the "lingering death" of a golden eagle whose legs were allegedly broken in an illegal trap.

The bird of prey was found "hidden" under a tree branch, close to a lay-by on a quiet country road near Aboyne, Aberdeenshire.

It had been fitted with a satellite transmitter which showed it had not moved for several days. RSPB Scotland was alarmed by the treatment of the bird and put up the money for information for only the second time in its history. But the Scottish Gamekeepers Association said it would be carrying out its own inquiry because it believed there were "irregularities" in the case.
