THREE men have been sentenced by a Swedish court over their involvement in a bird-egg smuggling ring traced back to Scotland.

The Swedish men faced more than 100 charges relating to birds' eggs taken from the wild between 2003 and 2009, and also to trading in eggs.

One man has been jailed for a year and the others were fined up to £3800.

They were trading with other collectors around the world. The case is linked to the conviction of a man in Inverness for trading and possessing eggs.
