Police have launched an investigation after a body was found in a nature reserve.

The discovery was made at Maidencraig nature reserve on the edge of Aberdeen at about 11am today.

The death is currently being treated as "unexplained".

Police Scotland said: "Inquiries are at an early stage to establish the full circumstances."

Local councillor Martin Greig, who represents the Hazlehead and Queens Cross area, said: "This is an extremely shocking incident.

"The local community will be greatly alarmed by this terrible news. Hopefully the police will be able to explain what has happened without delay. My sympathies go to the family and friends of the deceased."
