The Mayor of London admitted he "hasn't got the faintest idea" which teams will contest tomorrow's English league cup final - despite both being from the capital.
Boris Johnson scored an own goal on Sky News when he conceded a blind spot in his sporting knowledge as part of a question-and-answer session with children.
Mr Johnson was questioned on a range of topics by First News readers and contributors to the Sky News Stand Up Be Counted campaign as part of the channel's Hotseat series.
Asked by one of the young panel which of the two London teams he would be supporting in tomorrow's Capital One Cup final at Wembley, Mr Johnson paused and looked off screen.
He said: "I have got the faintest idea, I'm sorry, I'm not very ... "
Told by the young inquisitor that the final was to be contested by Chelsea and Tottenham, the mayor replied: "Right, well, obviously London is going to come out well from that particular encounter."
It's not the first time Mr Johnson has been caught out by his lack of football knowledge. Last year, he apologised to a child he accidentally kicked during a kickabout in the capital, while he left a German opponent lying prone on the ground following a thunderous rugby-style tackle during a televised charity match in 2006.
