A bomb disposal team were drafted in today after a "suspicious package" was put through the door of a house.

Police and explosive experts were called to a house in Kilmarnock, at 4.25am today.

Officials confirmed a "suspicious item" was posted through the front door of a house in Loreny Drive.

Bomb disposal experts removed the item from the property.

A probe is now underway into the incident.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Police were called around 4.25am to a report of a suspicious item being put through a door in Loreny Drive, Kilmarnock.

"Police and the Royal Navy Explosive Ordinance Disposal unit attended and removed the item.

"No arrests have been made and inquiries are ongoing into the incident."
