HE became an overnight sensation with his post-match interview at the summer's Commonwealth Games - famously declaring "the mail man delivers" as he celebrated his gold medal.

Now boxer Charlie Flynn, who has spoken of the challenges of fitting his training in around his shifts working in a Royal Mail sorting office, is taking on a new challenge - to get Scots into shape.

The 20-year-old, who won gold in the men's lightweight 60kg boxing category, is acting as a fitness adviser to fans in a bid to help them slim down.

Flynn, of Newarthill, Lanarkshire, has set up a Facebook page where he is offering tips on diet, nutrition and fitness. He has revealed he was inspired to help overweight Scots after piling on the pounds himself during a holiday in Portugal following his success at the Games.

He told his 7,000 followers he had returned from his holiday with "some gut" and was planning to focus on "weight loss, not exactly boxing specific, diet tips and tricks, training and general nutrition".

He said his new page on the social media website was for anyone into training, diet and weight control.

"I will be posting up tips and tricks for weight loss, dieting and general nutrition, along with my training, so stay tuned and why not tag along and shift a bit," he said.

He went on to say that he had been out for a morning run, adding that it was the best time for losing weight.

Flynn became one of the stars of the summer's Games with his post match interviews including one with broadcaster John Inverdale which gained more than 110,000 views on You Tube.

Speaking at the Team Scotland athletes parade, he told of the hard work that went into his training, saying his colleagues regularly saw him "dragging my heels at work after two hours in the gym".

"Now my workmates see the outcome, they realise there was a target," he said.
