A SCHOOLBOY who sustained life-threatening injuries in a road accident has met the emergency response team that savedhis life.

Luke Minto was thought to be dying after he was hit by a car near his home in Whitburn, West Lothian, shortly before Christmas last year. The 11-year-old was so badly injured in the accident that his only chance of survival was to be placed in a medically-induced coma at the roadside.

The Medic 1 response team then arrived on the scene to find Luke had sustained a traumatic brain injury, bruising to his lungs, an open-leg fracture and was suffering from suspected internal bleeding. He spent a week in intensive care at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh before regaining consciousness on Christmas Day.

Now Luke has met many of the medical professionals who kept him alive.

His mother Kelly said: "Without the Medic 1 team my son wouldn't be with me today. The team are unbelievable and don't get enough credit for what they do."

Luke added: "The only thing I remember about the accident is waking up in intensive care on Christmas Day. I was excited but a bit nervous to meet the doctors. It was good to go in the ambulance because I don't remember being in there the first time."
