SCOTTISH Women in Sport founder Maureen McGonigle was joined by golfer Kylie Walker and wheelchair basketball player Robyn Love at an event to encourage more female participation.

The second annual Scottish Women in Sport (SWIS) conference took place at the RBS Conference Centre in Gogarburn, Edinburgh.

Among the high-profile attendees was tennis coach Judy Murray and former international rugby star David Sole, whose daughter Gemma plays netball for the Scottish Thistles.

Justine Mitchell, director of Dundee Utd FC, and Jamie Hepburn, Minister for Sport, Health Improvement and Mental Health, were also among the guest speakers.

The organisation was founded by Ms McGonigle, the former executive administrator of Scottish Women's Football, in 2013.

Among its key goals is to encourage more women to become involved in sport and build on the current figure of 31 per cent who regularly participate.

It also aims to raise the profile of Scotland's top female athletes.

Only seven per cent of sports media coverage is currently devoted to women and 0.4 per cent of commercial investment.
