Comrades said the soldier, from 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards, was killed by an explosion while in a vehicle patrol during the first stages of the Operation Moshtarak.
His death was one of the first among coalition forces engaged in the offensive.

British soldier killed in fiercest Afghanistan battle
A BRITISH soldier has been killed during the launch of the fiercest military offensive against the Taliban since the conflict in Afghanistan began.
