New research reveals the average Briton spends just 183 minutes at home every day, sleeping time excepted.
Where we once spent six hours a day pottering indoors, that has been reduced to just three.
In a survey of 1000 people in full-time employment, 42% said they often had days when they left the house as soon as they are dressed and when they returned home late at night, went straight to bed.
The research, carried out by East Coast Trains, suggests people spend so much time out of the house because of longer working hours, increased travelling for work purposes, socialising with friends or longer commutes.
It found that 57% of people felt like they were constantly on the go, while 59% even had to book in time to spend at home.
