There was a short power outage following the incident at 12pm at Allen Glen Place in Glasgow, police have said.
A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "The workman was taken to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary and there are no details of his injuries.
"There was a short power outage for less than an hour in the north of the city and there were no evacuations."
Up to 300 ScottishPower customers had their electricity supply disrupted for around 40 minutes due to works being carried out in the area by a third party, a spokesman for ScottishPower said.
The utility company has apologised for any inconvenience caused to customers.
Police, ScottishPower, the Fire Service and the Scottish Ambulance Service were all in attendance and the Health and Safety Executive has been informed.
