SKIERS have finally had time called on their extended ski season at Cairngorm Mountain.

The number of snow-sports enthusiasts visiting the slopes was double that of last year, partly thanks to late-season snowfall.

However, the operators have now said conditions have finally got the better o f them and snow-sports are over for this season. They had 113,582 skier/boarder days – good but not quite equal to the 120,000 and 140,000 of the two exceptional seasons before last year.

Cairngorm opened for snowsports on 139 days over the winter but lost a larger-than-normal number of days to storms.

The resort could not open on 29 days, 10 more than the average number of stormbound daysin a season. Four snow guns were used from the end of November, getting the resort's season off to a flying start.
