Call for levy on Beauly-Denny line to fund new land reform

Communities could once again follow in the footsteps of Assynt, Eigg and Gigha by buying their land, if a levy is charged on all of the power transmitted down the controversial Beauly-Denny power line.

Cash raised from such a levy could then be held in a reserve modelled on the Shetland oil fund, according to a speaker at a major conference in Inverness organised to restore momentum to the land reform movement.
