Call to bring back director of museums

THE former director of museums in Glasgow has called for the abolished director's position to be reinstated to ensure the city can negotiate the best deals in exchange for lending items from its Burrell Collection abroad.

Julian Spalding, who held the post of director of museums Glasgow from 1989 until it was dropped in 1998, said it was vital the role was recreated if the city were to benefit fully from plans to exhibit parts of the famous Burrell Collection outside Glasgow for the first time.
