TRADE unions have called on Dundee City Council not to give contracts to firms involved in blacklisting.

The local authority is to face a motion on Monday over allegations that it is procuring works from firms involved in blacklisting.

The issue is being raised by Councillor Richard McCready to the city's Policy & Resources Committee. Dundee Trades Union Council secretary Mike Arnott said it was aware that a number of construction companies have been challenged about supporting the existence of and subscribing to a construction industry "blacklist".

He added that it contained covertly and potentially illegally gathered and circulated information.

He said: "We would therefore support Cllr McCready's proposal and would call on Dundee City Council not to award contracts to, nor include on their approved suppliers list, companies who have been identified as using blacklisting information."
