Calls for George Square apology

GLASGOW will attempt to draw a line under the fiasco surrounding plans to redesign its main civic square next week, amid demands for the council leader to apologise.

A report on the cancellation of the George Square redesign project includes claims senior officials "are currently reviewing alternative refurbishment options, which will be presented at a future date for consideration".

The report also claims the council's Labour administration pulled the plug on a radical redesign of the square as there was little public support, contradicting previous public claims by council leader Gordon Matheson that the shortlisted designs reflected popular approval.
