CANCER rates in Scotland will rise significantly in Scotland during the next decade as an increasingly elderly population presents more cases of the disease, one of the country's leading experts has warned.
Dr David Dunlop, clinical director of the Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre, said the number of cases of some types of cancer may increase by as much as 40%, presenting a challenge to the medical services who will have to provide treatment and care.
