Capital cashes in with late opening and free parking

BELEAGUERED Edinburgh shops that have suffered from the tramworks and bad weather are hoping to cash in on festival footfall by enticing tourists with the country's first mass late-opening scheme.

As the festival season got fully under way yesterday, the capital is opening up more than 100 stores to claw back some of the £5 million they claim to have lost because of work on the planned trams network and the recent damp weather.
