A car ended up in the basement of a city tenement building after an accident on Boxing Day.

The vehicle and its 21-year-old woman driver ended up in the basement of a property on Chester Street in Edinburgh after an incident involving a taxi.

The driver of the taxi, a man in his 60s, had minor leg injuries and was treated at the scene.

Both drivers and the two female passengers of the taxi aged 40 and 11 were taken by ambulance to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

A spokeswoman for Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service said: "There was a road traffic accident involving a car and a taxi at 10pm.

"The car ended up in the basement of a tenement building.

"Firefighters assisted with four casualties before ambulance crews arrived.

"No-one was trapped but the driver of the taxi, a man in his early 60s had slight leg injuries. The two female passengers of the taxi aged 40 and 11 were also casualties.

"All four were taken by ambulance to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary as a precaution."

Police were in attendance but the road was not closed.
