A CARE home nurse who let a three-year verbal abuse campaign against residents go unnoticed has been struck off.

John Seats was initially suspended for six months after letting the comments pass at Kinnaird Manor, Falkirk.

He witnessed colleagues telling residents to 'f*** off' and making gratuitous sexual remarks between 2008 and 2011.

He was initially suspended from duty on request of Falkirk Council before blowing the whistle on other colleagues, the Nursing and Midwifery Council heard.

He was first suspended by Kinnaird Manor on 8 April, 2011 and then by the NMC in 2013 after a police investigation into alleged abused of residents.

He wrote several letters of grievance to his area manager, outlining how he witnessed residents being abused for up to three years.

Mr Seats stated that residents were told to 'get to f***' and to 'f*** off' by the care home nurses.

Others made inappropriate sexual comments whenever certain presenters came on the television or radio.

Some residents were told: "If you don't stop that I will get father molester in to see you."

Mr Seats was suspended for six months last July after failing to inform his line manager or other bodies about the abuse of residents.

Chairman of the NMC panel Gary Leong said: 'This panel took account of the fact that the previous panel had determined that a suspension order would allow Mr Seats time to reflect on his actions and to demonstrate that he was a safe practitioner.

"This panel is of the view that Mr Seats has had ample opportunity to engage with the NMC to provide such evidence but has failed to do so.

"This panel has borne in mind the serious nature of Mr Seats' misconduct which involved failures to appropriately report the abuse of vulnerable patients.

"Mr Seats failed to raise and escalate concerns and abused the trust placed in him in relation to vulnerable patients.

"This in turn violated the right of such patients."

Mr Seats was struck off on the basis of his lack of engagement with the NMC.
