Slater was voted the best celebrity chef by 20% of respondents to the poll to mark Olive magazine's 10th anniversary, followed by the Hairy Bikers (17%) and Michel Roux Jr (14%).
Jamie Oliver managed 11% in the poll of 1379 people followed by Nigella Lawson (9%) and Smith with 7%.
Smith topped a similar poll by the magazine in 2003, winning 37% of the votes.
Voters ranked locally produced seasonal food as their favourite "trend" (29%), followed by "diverse cuisine" (26%) and farmers' markets (18%). On the flip side, chain restaurants make those polled the most unhappy about the modern food scene (40%), followed by bad service (34%) and the "prohibitively expensive" cost of eating out (16%).
The survey also revealed 55% more Britons are cooking from scratch than they did 10 years ago,.
