Charities losing out on Gift Aid

A CHARITY has called for changes to rules on Gift Aid after revealing it loses up to £500,000 a year because of red tape.

Breast Cancer Campaign said there was a lack of awareness of Gift Aid, especially among people who donate at work.

Research showed one-third of workers knew nothing about the scheme and almost half who have donated have never filled out a Gift Aid declaration.

Gift Aid enables charities to reclaim tax on donations from UK taxpayers, but people have to confirm their name and address.
