A CYCLING charity is offering a Christmas gift with a difference for cyclists this year - sponsorship of a mile of the National Cycle Network.

Sustrans is selling a package "for the cyclist who has everything", which allows people to sponsor a mile of National Cycle route 7 which runs from Glasgow to Loch Lomond.

More than one thousand miles have already been sponsored and the money raised will help to maintain the route.

Recipients will receive a personalised certificate, fridge magnet and regular updates on the route, as well as a personalised Christmas message from their loved one and an image of their sponsored mile.

Julian Hall, Director of Fundraising at Sustrans, said: "The National Cycle Network is enjoyed by millions each year and many people have a favourite mile - whether it's somewhere they have enjoyed walking or cycling with loved ones or somewhere that is particularly scenic.

"Sponsor a Mile allows people to buy a unique gift for someone which in turn will help the charity maintain routes for years to come."

Sponsoring a mile costs £30 and people can choose from more than 14,000 miles along the route.
